Alaska Community Pay Comparator
How to read this
Alaska law (AS 39.27.020) sets a geographic differential for every state duty station — a percentage added to base pay, using Anchorage as the baseline, derived from cost-of-living study data. That makes it the closest thing Alaska has to an official cost-of-living index by community. This tool converts a salary between two communities at the state's own rates: the same Range 16 job posts at very different numbers in Anchorage, Juneau (+5%), Dillingham (+37%), and Kotzebue (+60%).
Differentials apply to state positions; municipal, federal, and private employers set pay their own way — but the differential remains a useful, officially-derived signal of relative living costs. Rates from the current GGU schedule.
