The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting

for a Wildlife Veterinarian located in Fairbanks!

What you will be doing:

Serve as the lead supervisory veterinarian for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation, and the primary wildlife health veterinarian. Duties include:

Leading the division’s Wildlife Health and Veterinary Services Program, which includes a full-time capture veterinarian and multiple other full and part-time staff members;

Working with division’s wildlife biologists to survey wildlife health and diagnose diseases and parasites;

Coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies on animal disease outbreak issues and surveillance of zoonotic or emerging diseases, including serving as the primary liaison with the Alaska State Veterinarian, Department of Health, and federal agencies on domestic animal and human health issues related to wildlife; and

Developing and recommending mitigation procedures for emerging diseases when necessary.

The working environment you can expect:

The position is in Fairbanks and includes work carried out in the office, lab, and field (sometimes remote). Daily work is highly variable and includes working with veterinary staff and wildlife biologists, conducting necropsies, formulating and tracking budgets, carrying out field work, and writing manuscripts and other reports. Routine travel is needed to work with staff, participate in meetings, and carry out field work.

Special Note:

A valid driver's license is required.

This position may be in possession of, or have access to, firearms/ammunition.

First aid/CPR certification. Training will be provided by the department at no cost to the employee.

Maintain Alaska veterinary medicine licenses in good standing.

No previous convictions on illicit drug or alcohol-related charges, no previous loss or suspension of veterinary license in any state.
