Visitors Center Ambassador

The City of Valdez Economic Development department is hiring temporary Visitor Center Ambassadors to serve as the front line of Valdez’s tourism experience, providing welcoming, accurate, and engaging information to visitors. This position plays a key role in promoting local businesses, activities, and events while ensuring a positive and memorable experience for all guests.

Ambassadors should have strong customer service and communication skills with general knowledge about Valdez and the history of (or be willing to learn), and have prior customer service in a tourism related industry,

This is a temporary, non-benefited position working up to 40 hours per week to include weekends, and holidays during peak season.

Positions are open until filled, review of applicants begins April 29, 2026.

Working Conditions

Fast-paced, public-facing environment

Requires standing, walking, and interacting with visitors for extended periods

Weekend and holiday work required during peak season

Minimum Qualifications

18 years or older

High School Diploma or GED

1 year of customer service, preferably in a tourism related field preferred (preferred but not required)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Greet visitors in a friendly, professional, and engaging manner

Provide information on:

Local attractions, tours, and activities

Dining, lodging, and services

Events and community offerings

Answer questions in person while visitors are in the center

Maintain visitor center displays, brochures, and materials

Support general operations of the visitor center

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Strong customer service and communication skills

Outgoing, personable, and comfortable engaging with the public

General knowledge of Valdez, or willingness to quickly learn

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Reliable and punctual

Prior experience in customer service, tourism, or hospitality

Knowledge of local businesses, outdoor recreation, and events

Familiarity with Valdez history and community
