Basic Function
Perform a variety of general labor, maintenance, repair tasks, and clean-up in support of the Transportation maintenance facility as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor. Assist Mechanics and Servicers as needed. Expedite parts and handle materials; conduct parts inventory and tracking. Maintain grounds, to include maintenance and clean-up.

Typical Duties
1. Provide routine facility/grounds maintenance (Maintenance Facility, Transportation Center, and bus stops) to include trash/litter, snow removal, and general upkeep. Snow removal may require late nights, early mornings or weekends outside of or in addition to regularly scheduled work day.
2. Clean shop facility; floor drains, parking lot maintenance, sweeping, fence line brush abatement, etc.).
3. Assist Mechanics and Servicers as needed to provide support (adjusting fluid levels, refueling, lubricating, parts cleaning, tire changes, 2nd helper on large projects, vehicle washing/cleaning etc.).
4. Uses power/ hand tools, forklift and bobcat/loader as needed to perform job functions.
5. Provide parts expediting as needed. Inventory parts and maintain a tracking system. Assist with shipping and receiving.
6. Assist with annual equipment disposal auction. Assist with vehicle salvage preparation.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age at time of employment.
2. Prefer experience operating a bobcat or forklift. Must have or be able to obtain a “Certified Forklift Driver” card within six (6) months of hire.
3. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license. Must meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of automobile insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST). Prefer a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of common mechanic tools and materials. Knowledge and proper safe use of power and hand tools used in performing mechanic duties.
2. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions, and to perform work in a timely, orderly, and accurate manner.
3. Ability to record activities and figures legibly into records books.
4. Physical strength and agility to perform the work including removing and changing tires and preventative maintenance tasks.
5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and courteously with the general public, co-workers, and other organizations/agencies.

Frequent interdepartmental business contact; continuous routine public contact, and frequent contact involving outside organizations/agencies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
Does not supervise; experiences mostly routine problems daily with a few minor problems that must be resolved on own initiative with little immediate supervision; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require normal effort to recover.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Performs duties in a variety of conditions, generally unpleasant areas with undesirable 3 elements or factors on a somewhat continuous basis; major accident/hazard risk; requires sustained periods of heavy lifting, crouching, stooping or stretching (50+ lbs.). This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
