The City of Kodiak Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for

temporary Recreation Assistants

.

The Department is looking for an experienced team player that has a desire to be a part of a progressive Parks and Recreation Department working hard to serve the needs of our community.

This position provides the necessary support to successfully and safely run the various Parks and Recreation programs. Positions work closely with youth, parents, and volunteers; and monitor activities and responsible use of facilities to ensure public safety. Under direct supervision of lead worker or Recreation Coordinator, this position coordinates programs, oversees participants, facility operations, organized group activities and games, and monitors adult, youth or family activities and special events.

Examples Of Essential Duties

May perform a variety of tasks such as assist at the ice rink or facilitate gym use at the various schools, operate timekeeping clocks during basketball games or help with activities at the Teen Center all while overseeing Parks and Recreation Department sponsored activities and events. Specific duties can include, but are not limited to:

Performs specific duties as outlined per activity or event.

Have knowledge and carry out work at the front desk, which include registration of guests, cash register operations, and other front desk procedures.

Maintains accurate administrative records, to include, attendance, equipment, facility cleaning logs, program registration and program rosters, incident reports, and logbook documentation.

Maintains order and discipline by enforcing rules, regulations and safety precautions.

Plans, leads, and implements programs for patrons.

Provides high-quality recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for participants.

Supervises participants and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.

Organizes and leads various small and large group activities.

Ensures the cleanliness of the site.

Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the program.

May open and close facility at beginning and end of operations.

Acts as a team member maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors and staff.

Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.

Performs other duties as assigned.
