Position Summary:

Provides instructional and classroom support based on the school's Title I-A plan to students participating in the Title I-A program. This position assists in delivering small group academic interventions and supplemental instruction and monitors progress toward student achievement in closing educational achievement gaps. The paraprofessional works closely with the intervention teacher to support a positive and productive learning environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:

High School diploma.

Some prior experience working with school age children preferred.

CPR, first aid and district approved behavioral management techniques may be required.

Must have either an AA degree, or 48 semester hours, or be willing to take and pass the WorkKeys Exam (support available).

Knowledge of:

Organizational, time-management, and record-keeping skills.

Personal computers and related software.

School age child development and behavior.

Elementary school-age academics.

Ability to:

Maintain confidentiality.

Provide instructional assistance in assigned areas.

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Have patience and empathy when working with children.

Operate a personal computer and related software.

Maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.

Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.

Support school-wide initiatives, student growth, and Title I-A program goals.

Compensation:

This is a full-time 9-month position, working 35 hours per week, with a starting salary of $26.37 per hour.  We offer an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, and paid time off. This position is represented by the Juneau Education Support Staff (JESS) bargaining agreement.

Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
