THIS RECRUITMENT IS FOR DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION EMPLOYEES ONLY

This position is being recruited for in Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla, Fairbanks, or Juneau.

Pay will be determined based on location of selected individual.

Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla salary: $3,119.25

Fairbanks salary: $3,213.00

Juneau salary: $3,275.25

What you will be doing:

This is a high-level technical position in the Solid Waste Management Program within the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). This position performs advanced professional-level work involving evaluation of risk to human health and the environment under highly variable and often uncertain conditions across rural Alaska and serves as a primary point of contact between the Department and the regulated community. This position functions independently to plan, develop, and implement complex program activities and statewide initiatives related to rural solid waste systems, disaster debris preparedness and resiliency, and post-consumer material management. The position also works with managers and staff to provide technical support to manage risk factors associated with rural solid waste storage, treatment, and disposal activities. The position requires advanced knowledge of solid waste systems, environmental science, and regulatory requirements, as well as the ability to apply that knowledge across a wide range of complex and variable conditions.

This position is being recruited statewide, and the position may be located in the Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Wasilla, or Soldotna DEC Offices. The incumbent will interact with Solid Waste Management staff in the Fairbanks, Juneau, and Anchorage offices.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college in an environmental, physical, biological, or natural science; engineering; planning; or natural resources.

AND

Professional experience evaluating, documenting, and monitoring environmental and socio-economic impacts of changes in the built environment or applying environmental regulations and pollution controls for damage recovery or to protect or improve environmental quality.
