SOC Technician (Alyeska SOC)

The Security Operations Center (SOC) Technician monitors and supports the safety and security of people, facilities, and assets by observing surveillance systems, responding to alarms, and coordinating incident response activities. Responsible for the technical management of access control systems. This role serves as the first line of defense, ensuring timely detection, documentation, and escalation of security-related events.
The Security Operation Center (SOC) is in Anchorage, located with the Alyeska Operations Control Center (OCC) and is staffed 24 hours/day 7 days/week. The SOC is a highly technical work environment that uses specialized hardware/software, and radio/telephone/IP communications in support of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS). This position works a one week on / one week off rotational schedule.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license
One (1) year of TAPS security experience
or equivalent
in a Security Operations Center or IT Security field
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with personnel at all levels, external agencies, and the public.
Proficiency in electronic security management applications; including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Video and Data Transport Management, and Alarm Management
Alaska Unarmed Security Officer license or ability to obtain upon hire
Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods
Ability to handle crisis situations at the client site, calmly and efficiently
Ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
Upon hire, must complete the SOC Qualification Training Program
Must be able to pass pre-employment screens including drug test, criminal background check, and post-offer physical/fitness for duty evaluation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) or more years of TAPS security experience
Two (2) or more years in a Security Operations Center or IT Security field
Two (2) years of experience as any officer (or above) with a municipal, state or federal law enforcement agency, military police unit, corrections or private security company within the past five years
Extensive experience with CCTV, access control, and alarm management systems
Willingness to be OC (pepper spray) certified
Experience working in critical infrastructure, industrial, or remote environments
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitor security systems including CCTV, access control, alarms, and communication systems
Identify, assess, and respond to security alerts and incidents in real time
Dispatch security personnel or emergency services as needed
Maintain accurate logs, incident reports, and shift documentation
Communicate effectively with on-site security teams, management, and external responders
Follow established security procedures, protocols, and escalation paths
Conduct routine system checks to ensure equipment is functioning properly
Assist with investigations by reviewing footage and compiling reports
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive security information

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The majority of work is primarily performed in a control room environment. Incumbent will be required to work rotating shifts (day and night), weekends and holidays.
The employee’s work requires routine sitting, walking, standing, bending, and occasionally carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to visually monitor multiple screens simultaneously. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Candidate/incumbent will be required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-hire physical and fitness for duty test.
