POSITION SUMMARY

Registration Clerk I:

Interviews patients or their representative to get personal and insurance information. Verifies insurance information with appropriate insurers. Enters and updates this information into the computer. Contacts insurers by phone to pre-authorization when required. Provides on call coverage for ER registration as scheduled. Reports directly to the Patient Financial Services Director.

Registration Clerk II:

Interviews patients or their representative to get personal and insurance information.  Verifies insurance information and obtains pre-authorization and/or pre-certification as needed.  Enters and updates this verified information into the computer. Assigns chart numbers from Medical Records listing and prepares charts. Provides Medicaid information to new parents and assists with obtaining Medicaid number. Provides on call coverage for ER registration as scheduled. Reports directly to the Patient Financial Services Director.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Registration Clerk I:

1.   Accomplishes the efficient and orderly registration of patients in the Electronic Medical Record, Cerner Millennium by ensuring that accurate patient information is collected and verifies insurance benefits and eligibility. Updates existing Cerner patient profile.

2.  &nbspects patients to the appropriate areas of services.

3.   Accepts patient payments and routes any billing inquiries to the appropriate Revenue Cycle personnel.

4.   Refers any patients who present with no third-party coverage to the Alternate Resource Specialists.

5.   Travels occasionally for enrollment fairs to the eleven villages.

6.   Provides registration support to the Administration Assistants in the eleven villages and requested.

7.   This position, along with the Registration Clerk II, reports to the Patient Financial Services Director and is trained and mentored by the Lead Registration Clerk.

8.   This job description will be reviewed with the employee semi-annually to ensure that real-life duties and responsibilities align with this original edition.

Registration Clerk II:

1.   All duties of Registration Clerk I.

2.   Performs daily cash reconciliation of any payments collected and submits to the Finance Department.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Registration Clerk I:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have good customer service skills and be a team player. A healthcare background is preferred, but not required. Must display good telephone etiquette in order to deal appropriately with the public and insurance companies.  Must be able to type at least 25 words per minute on a computer.  Must be able to sort alphabetically and numerically.  Must have the ability to prioritize and carry out daily duties in a timely and accurate manner with minimal supervision.  Must be willing to be a team player.

Registration Clerk II:

High School Diploma or equivalent. RPMS experience with basic Microsoft Word and Excel are required. Minimum two years’ experience in tribal healthcare. Must demonstrate mastery the Registration Technician I responsibilities.  Must have good customer service skills.  Must display good telephone etiquette in order to deal appropriately with the public and insurance companies.  Must be able to type at least 25 words per minute on a computer. Must have the ability to prioritize and carry out daily duties in a timely and accurate manner with minimal supervision.  Must be willing to be a team player.
