Basic Function

Responsible to ensure that all recreational activities are accomplished in a safe and orderly manner for the Parks & Recreation Department. Assist in set-up, take-down and facility cleaning for special events. Assist organizations using or renting the facility. Works weekends and evenings.

Typical Duties

1.  Perform daily routine cleaning and resupply of restrooms and facilities during open hours or after events

2. Perform general maintenance and cleaning of Ski Chalet, Warm-Up Hut, and general park grounds.

3. Maintain all walkways, stairs, and handicap access areas clear of snow, debris, and provide adequate traction.

4. Ensure a fun and safe environment for park guests, event participants, and user groups of all ages.

5. Inform patrons of facility rules, monitor park and facilities during open hours and special events and ensure that scheduled activities are enforced.

6. Coordinate use of park, facilities, and equipment with trail groomers, user groups, and event participants.

7. Open facilities for daily activities, complete park and facility inspection checklist, report damage and maintenance issues, and secure facilities at close.

8. Assist in the setup and take-down of facilities for special events and provide support for use of facilities and equipment.

9. Create signs for building closures, special events, and park notices.

10. Issue change for vending machines.

11. Perform custodial duties as assigned.

12. Respond to patrons' questions/needs and refer to supervisor/manager when appropriate.

Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 18 years old.

2. Six months of work experience dealing with the public, operating a personal computer and/or cash register, and handling cash preferred.

3. PREFERRED: Ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough’s insurance program. If personal automobile is used for Borough business, proof of insurance at statutory limits must be provided. (A CURRENT COPY OF DRIVING RECORD WILL BE REQUIRED UPON REQUEST.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1. Knowledge of basic math computations.

2. Ability to deal with the public in a pleasant, tactful, and courteous manner.

3. Must be able to use hand tools, powered hand tools, brush/grass cutting and snow removal equipment, and operate a utility vehicle.

4. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

5. Demonstrate basic proficiency in personal computer applications to create signs and fill out forms.

6. Must be able to achieve Standard First Aid, Adult CPR, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications as recognized by the American Red Cross (or equivalent) within three (3) months of hire.

OTHER

1. This position requires a criminal background check.

2. A PROFICIENCY TEST MAY BE ADMINISTERED.

JOB CONTACTS:

Frequent business contact with employees in own division, continuous, routine public contact and frequent contact involving outside organizations/agencies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY:

Does not supervise; many minor problems daily, and an occasional major one where supervisor is usually required for help and instruction; the consequences of error, carelessness or mistaken judgment require minimal effort to recover.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

A recreational facility where conditions are pleasant; good, clean conditions where accidents/hazards are negligible; requires short periods of moderate lifting, pushing or pulling (26-50 lbs.).

This position falls under the Borough’s Blood Borne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Program as it is reasonably anticipated that infrequent exposure to blood or other bodily fluids may occur while performing some job duties.
