The City of Valdez Parks & Recreation Department is looking for an Aquatics Recreation Coordinator to run our pool operations, grow our swim programs, and keep our facility safe, clean, and welcoming for the community.
In this position, reporting to the Recreation Manager, you'll coordinate and supervise all aspects of our aquatics program, from daily pool operations and swim lessons to staff training and marketing. You'll also pitch in on community events and special programs across the Recreation Division.
What You'll Do
Oversee daily pool operations, cleanliness, and safety
Test, monitor, and document water quality, and flag maintenance needs
Work with City Building Maintenance and School District partners on facility needs
Ensure compliance with aquatic health and safety requirements
Develop and evaluate swim lessons and aquatic programs for all ages and skill levels
Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate aquatic staff, including coordinating lifeguard training and certifications
Oversee front desk operations and customer service
Order supplies and equipment, prepare reports, and help monitor the budget
Create marketing materials and manage aquatics social media
Support department-wide community events and special programs
What You Bring
Two years of aquatics, recreation, or related experience
Previous supervisory or lead experience
Experience with swim lesson programming or instruction
CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain within a designated period)
Valid Alaska Driver's License
Ability to pass a background check
Strong communication and customer service skills, and the ability to juggle priorities and work independently while collaborating with a team

Work in indoor and outdoor environments.
