The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a
Psychiatric Nurse 2/Medical Nurse Case Manager
What you will be doing:
This position provides direct clinical nursing care, conducting comprehensive patient assessments, identifying abnormal findings, and triaging medical needs. The nurse administers medications, performs diagnostic point-of-care testing, assists with procedures, and monitors patient responses to treatments. They manage clinical workflows such as specimen handling, medication reconciliation, and urgent escalation of clinical changes. The role includes coordinating care with providers, specialists, and community resources to support continuity and chronic disease management. Additionally, the nurse educates patients and families, maintains a safe clinical environment, and participates in ongoing professional development.

Minimum Qualifications
Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska;
AND EITHER
Successful completion of a formal training plan as a Psychiatric Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska;
OR
One year of entry level experience as a Registered Nurse. Examples of this experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Psychiatric Nurse 1, Corrections Nurse 1, or Nurse 1 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
Substitution:
Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Med-Surg, Corrections, Public Health, Critical Care) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.
Special Note:
Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

1. Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
2. Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.
3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement)
4. Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.
5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.
