Job Summary
The Business Manager supervises the budget and daily financial operations of Anchorage School District's Family Partnership Correspondence School. The business manager establishes efficient procedures and supports the clerical staff. The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).
Job Requirements
The following is required:
A bachelor's degree in business, management, or other related areas. Equivalent experience education and training may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
Extensive office work experience with at least three years of supervision of clerical support functions.
Three years of experience in professional-level budgetary techniques and procedures or accounting.
Proficiency with technology and software used in an office location.
Knowledge of business and management principles and practices.
The following are preferred:
Thorough knowledge of the use of filing and computer systems in a public sector environment, including methods of data recording, storage, and retrieval.
A working knowledge of correct business practices, correspondence, and document formats, including the proper use of English grammar, composition, spelling, and punctuation.
Essential Job Functions
Works in conjunction with the Office of Management and Budget to prepare the annual budget proposal for review.
Coordinates the preparation of the school budget, including developing recommendations concerning budgetary improvements as to cost efficiency, budget reduction, and program enhancements.
Coordinates with the Budget and Accounting Departments to ensure efficient operations and problem-solving.
Manages federal and state grant budgets.
Creates contracts for vendors in cooperation with the Purchasing Department.
Works with landlords on repair issues and maintains building keys.
Works in Business Plus to create and oversee purchase requisitions, p-card transactions, reports, stores orders, and budget transfers.
Procures supplies and acquires technology to meet the school's needs.
Communicates clearly and professionally in written and verbal correspondence.
Works with ASD departments through meetings and other communication to streamline processes.
In coordination with the business manager and principal's administrative assistant, communicates with a proprietary database programmer to maintain and upgrade the Online System (OLS) that families use to manage individual student learning.
In coordination with the business manager and principal's administrative assistant, supports staff and families in the OLS system with changes and upgrades assuring they are in control of their student's classes and student financial allotments.
Pay bills for services and expenses of the school.
Creates and manages addenda for teachers as directed by the principal.
Supports leadership with planning, organization, establishing work priorities, scheduling assignments, overseeing event planning and execution, and developing and implementing training for administrative staff. This includes supervision of administrative staff in a non-supervisory capacity.
Manages payroll in EmpCenter.
Physical /Mental Demands
The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing. Specific visual abilities are also required. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing less than 40 lbs. Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure. The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a professional environment with a wide variety of individuals having differing functions, personalities and abilities, including working with diverse groups of people in a variety of different settings.
While performing the duties of this job the employee may be regularly exposed to a video display. The employee may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
