This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Example of Duties

Anchorage Police Officers/Senior Police Officers perform a wide range of police services and a variety of tasks including; maintain order, enforce codes and ordinances, identification and apprehension of violators within the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA). Respond to complaints and requests for police assistance and intervene in various situations as required. Promote safety and wellbeing through the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the MOA. Conduct preliminary investigations; collect and preserve evidence. Ability to coordinate with other agencies, maintain records and daily reports; prepare cases for court testimony and testify in court as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

[ School Resource Officer (SRO) ]

:

SRO’s work closely with school administrators to provide school level classes and training for students on law enforcement related topics such as local municipal and state codes, crime scene investigation, the role of the police in the community and our jobs and duties within the government. SROs are also encouraged to attend community outreach events involving their assigned schools, such as after-school programs, school-based clubs and sports teams, as well as Parent Teacher Associations.  SROs, as a part of the school staff, will be an active part of their assigned school's day-to-day activities, coordinating frequently to be an active presence. SRO’s are also expected to serve as a liaison between their schools and other officers and detectives requiring assistance.

Must be a current sworn employee working within the Anchorage Police Department

Must have a minimum of three

years as a Police Officer with Anchorage Police Department.

Must be able to perform all functions of a Police Officer.

Additional Important Information

The APD Basic Selection Process will be utilized. The Basic Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:

Written School Resource Officer Test (minimum 60% passing score).

Applicants that pass the written test will be invited to participate in an oral board and teach back.

Oral Board (minimum 60% passing score).

Teach-back exercise.

Discipline Review.

Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)

The eligibility list for the School Resource Officer (SRO) assignment is good for one (1) year from the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published. Selected applicant(s) remain or are removed from the Eligibility List at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police.

During the school year, to include, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and Spring Break, annual leave will be evaluated by the Department to ensure the mission of the Department is being met. During the summer months the Department will be flexible with annual leave.

Applicants must have completed any probationary period for their current position to be selected. An applicant that may meet the minimum qualifications during the life of this certification list but is currently ineligible due to probation, prior assignment or length of service is still encouraged to apply to be put on the eligible list for future consideration.

Employees not maintaining Unit standards are subject to reassignment at the discretion of the Chief of Police in accordance with the APDEA CBA.

All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
