This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Example of Duties
Under general direction, the Police Clerk is responsible for extensive contact with the public, both in person and over the phone. Maintain working knowledge of community, municipal, and internal resources and route citizens appropriately. Take reports of crime over the phone and compose formal department police reports. Type and compose routine correspondence, various reports, letters, memorandum. Extensive data entry. Research and enter data from police reports and citations into various computer systems, including but not limited to Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Records Management System (RMS). Coordinate with internal personnel and external agencies under time constraints to process arrests and charging documents. Perform cashiering functions and process all traffic citations. Process monetary entries for receipt of all monies for various types of permits, fees, reports. Provide court testimony as required. Perform other related duties as assigned.
All Police Clerks with five (5) years position seniority as Police Clerk shall be re-classed to a Senior Police Clerk.
Additional Information:
Perform computer input and retrieval of relevant data. Assist with administrative duties associated with unit enforcement activities. Transcription of recorded statements and police reports generated by unit. Assist unit sergeant/commander with grant administration. Prepare reports, forms and compile statistical data. Assist with daily time-sensitive deadlines for Municipal Attorney and District Attorney Offices. Answer phones and handle inquiries. Assist officers with citation and video preparations for court. Utilize working knowledge of basic office systems, programs, and multiple computer systems. Filing, copying, operating office equipment. Utilize ability to communicate and interact positively with co-workers and the public. Other related duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two
(2)
years of clerical office experience.
Must be able to perform all functions of a Police Clerk or Senior Police Clerk.
Must possess and/or obtain:
Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
Typing test at a net speed of 35 WPM at time of hire.
Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
Additional Important Information
The APD Internal Selection Process will be utilized. The Basic Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:
Oral Board (minimum 60% passing score).
Discipline Review.
Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)
The eligibility list for the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit Clerk assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position requires Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) and FBI National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification within 30 days of hire, and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) security clearance at time of hire. If the individual selected for this position fails to obtain these clearances and access within the specified timeline, they individual will be terminated.
All required licenses and certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. If selected for hire, internal appointment in this position may require the submission of a current Typing Speed Ability Certificate/documentation that must include the applicant’s legal name, and be dated within one (1) year of their application date, and/or dated within one (1) year as of the date requested.
