HOURS OF WORK: Schedule varies: (4/10's):

Mon-Thu, 6am-4:30pm;

Tue-Fri, 6am-4:30pm,

Fri-Mon, 6am-4:30pm,

Wed-Sat 6am-4:30pm,

Sun-Wed 6am-4:30pm;

all shifts w/1/2 hour meal period.

North Park Maintenance Shop-2839 Mt. View Drive; South Park Maintenance Shop-11440 Lang Street

This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement

Local union dispatched applicants

External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement

Example of Duties

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage park land and facilities in a safe and usable condition for the public to enjoy. Performs routine park maintenance under general supervision. Leads Parks Caretaker I positions to clean up illegal camps and store personal belongings as needed. The duties of this position focus on homeless camp cleanup. While utilizing safe work practices, remove trash, debris, and waste to restore Municipal property to usable conditions. Dispose of removed articles in a safe and sanitary manner. Other duties may include litter collection, snow and ice removal, trail maintenance, general grounds and facility cleaning and repair. The duties require the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, take initiative and direct the work of lower level staff on projects or on a daily basis. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent,

and

one

(1)

year experience as a Parks Caretaker I or the equivalent.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history.

Additional Important Information

If selected for hire, applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, and kneeling. Applicant must be able to lift and carry items weighing more than fifty (50) pounds and work outdoors in inclement weather.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicles' driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

Military Service Interview Preference

:

Veterans who wish to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran or similar document. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

An individual   currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wishes to be considered for an interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application.  Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.  The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
