WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
The Office Assistant 4 serves as a lead administrative support professional and plays a key role in representing the Alaska State Troopers to the community. This position oversees the daily operations of the front office, ensuring efficient, professional, and consistent service. Responsibilities include developing and implementing office policies and procedures, providing direct supervision and guidance to Office Assistant 2 staff, and coordinating training across a variety of administrative tasks. The Office Assistant 4 maintains effective communication with internal and external agencies, supports staff in handling public interactions, and ensures the front office operates with a high level of accuracy, responsiveness, and integrity.

The Office Assistant 4 supports the Department of Public Safety’s mission by keeping the front office running smoothly so Troopers can stay focused on preserving peace, enforcing laws, and protecting the public. By directing workflow and providing reliable administrative support, this position strengthens the team that serves the Kenai Peninsula and helps ensure efficient, high-quality law enforcement for the community.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:
This position is located at the Soldotna State Trooper Post on Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna. Office space consists of individual workstations in an open space near the front lobby/reception area, where interaction with the public occurs. The office space is shared with other Office Assistants and is the central hub of our main office equipment used by other staff in the building. The incumbent must be able to work with frequent interruptions, work well with others, and be able to multi-task in order to be successful in this position.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of office work experience providing a broad range of clerical support that includes performing reception duties, answering routine questions on services or products, retrieving information from electronic or hard copy files, recording expenditures and receipts, or typing routine correspondence.
Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular Alaska driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.

The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
