What you will be doing:

We inspect certain health facilities throughout the state to determine whether they meet state and federal standards, and we investigate complaints made against health facilities and agencies licensed or certified under our program. The purpose of our inspections is to determine a health care provider's ability to provide services which are safe and of an acceptable quality.

Investigation: Knowledge of the guidelines, regulations, and procedures associated with investigation, including interviewing, evidence detection, locating, gathering, and handling, and drawing appropriate factual inferences and conclusions. Compliance Inspection: Knowledge of the guidelines, regulations, and procedures associated with compliance inquiries, including application of compliance rules and criteria and ability to make appropriate decisions and issue citations, fines, or orders

Written Communication: Writes in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience

Minimum Qualifications:

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

AND

Any combination of education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.

Evidence-Based Practice:

integrates best research practices with clinical expertise and patient values for optimum care and participates in learning and research activities to the extent feasible.

Standards:

Knowledge of standards that either are compliant with or derived from established standards or guidelines.

Reasoning:

Identifies rules, principles, or relationships that explain facts, data, or other information; analyzes information and makes correct inferences or draws accurate conclusions.

Decision Making:

Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.

equivalent to those typically gained by:

Completion of a post-secondary education program in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field;

AND

Progressively responsible professional nursing experience that includes responsibility in health care, public health, health care delivery systems, nursing administration, consultative nursing, and/or teaching capacity that is relevant to the position's area of nursing specialty.

Special Note

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions require eligibility for specific professional certifications in a specialty field or licensure in the State of Alaska, such as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner. Most positions require expertise in a health specialty field; recruitment and selection for these positions will be from among only those candidates who have the appropriate specialty background and experience.
