Employee Benefits Coordinator

Position open until filled

Salary:  $71,524 - $88,813 DOE (for 260 day contract)

Class Summary:

The Employee Benefits Coordinator will work under the direction of the Director of Human Resources in coordination with the Finance and Payroll departments to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive employee benefits program for the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District. Duties include managing, directing and planning of group benefits programs to include health, dental, vision and other plans; serving as the point of contact for all employee related inquires; coordinating and providing training; providing guidance and oversight for any committee process; performing special projects; and preparing, analyzing, and submitting reports.

Required Qualifications:

Training, Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, human resources or related field preferred.  Equivalent education, experience and training may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.

Experience and understanding of employee benefits systems.

Proficiency with Microsoft systems including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain rapport with staff, vendors, and other partners.

Experience in handling and maintaining confidential information and records.

Essential Functions of the Position:

Develop, plan, and implement employee benefits programs designed to enhance the District's compensation offering in a cost-effective manner.

Develop and implement strategic initiatives for employee benefits aligned with district and employee needs.

Manage a benefit program to meet various staffing goals across all levels within multiple business units. Create and implement employment marketing strategies to attract passive job seekers.

Manages employee individual needs and inquiries through research and customer service support to ensure timely and accurate responses.

Demonstrates and articulates a thorough understanding of MSBSD benefit programs through employee outreach and coordinated training and engagement activities.

Builds and maintains positive relationships with MSBSD employees and new hires to ensure a robust understanding of benefit offerings.

Supports compliance with applicable government regulations and reporting requirements.  Ensures timeliness and accuracy.

Develop appropriate materials to include: brochures, videos, displays and other related items explaining various aspects of the employee benefits offerings.

Monitor administrative and other costs of benefits programs and recommends cost containment strategies as appropriate.

Provide customer service support for all employees with plan design and or access questions and concerns.  Ensures appropriate vendor/partner engagement for stakeholders.

Evaluates and monitors trends and market changes for review and analysis.

Gather monthly employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billing reports.

Review and develop both short and long range cost estimates/projections for employee benefits and support the development of the personnel expenditures related to these areas.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary Work:  Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
