POSITION SUMMARY

Licensed psychiatrist provides direct psychiatric clinical care and medical leadership for patients living in the Maniilaq service area. This position is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of behavioral health conditions in children, adolescents, and adults, while also providing medical oversight and supervision of psychiatric and medication providers across all Behavioral Health Services programs.

Credentials and privileges are approved by Maniilaq Medical Staff and Board of Directors. The Medical Director establishes psychiatric standards of care, prescribing protocols, and scope-of-practice expectations; supports quality assurance and regulatory compliance; and works collaboratively with administrators, Medical Staff, and health care providers across Maniilaq Association. This position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health Services for operational duties, and to the Chief Medical Officer for medical standards. Regular travel throughout the Maniilaq service region and villages is required.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide direct psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for youth, adolescents, and adults receiving Behavioral Health Services, including outpatient, inpatient, crisis, emergency department, telehealth, and village-based services.

Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications in accordance with Maniilaq clinical protocols, Medical Staff Bylaws, and applicable State of Alaska requirements.

Maintain an active clinical caseload consistent with assigned clinical FTE (0.4–0.5), including complex, high-risk, or consultative cases, while meeting established clinical productivity expectations.

Provide medical oversight, clinical supervision, and consultation for psychiatric and medication providers, including psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and tele-psychiatry providers.

Establish, implement, and monitor psychiatric standards of care, prescribing guidelines, standing orders, and scope-of-practice expectations across Behavioral Health Services programs.

Participate in quality assurance, peer review, chart audits, and clinical performance improvement activities in alignment with Medicaid, CMS, CARF, and Joint Commission standards.

Collaborate with the Director of Behavioral Health Services, Medical Staff, program leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to support integrated care delivery, program development, grant requirements, and system improvement.

Attend and participate in required Medical Staff, committee, clinical, and administrative meetings related to Behavioral Health Services.

Provide psychiatric consultation to medical providers and clinical teams as needed to support patient care and continuity of services.

Travel regularly throughout the Maniilaq service region, including village communities, with a minimum expectation of two (2) weeks per month to support direct clinical care, provider supervision, quality assurance, and program development.

Job Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school. Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatrist. Current, unrestricted license to practice psychiatric medicine (Alaska or eligible for Alaska licensure). Eligible for and able to maintain Maniilaq Medical Staff privileges. Demonstrated psychiatric experience providing care to both youth/adolescents and adults. Minimum five (5) years post-residency experience in psychiatric or behavioral health care preferred. Experience in rural, Tribal, or community-based behavioral health settings preferred.
