Job Description

The Division of Juvenile Justice is recruiting to fill a Juvenile Probation Officer 3 position for Fairbanks and Utqiagvik at Fairbanks Juvenile Probation.
What You Will Be Doing:
This position is based in Fairbanks but will be responsible for supervising the implementation of juvenile justice probation programs and services in Fairbanks and Utqiagvik Districts through subordinate Juvenile Probation Officers.
This position will also ensure probation programs, rehabilitative services and treatment planning incorporate the restorative justice approach to community protection, offender accountability and competency development for juvenile offenders and their families in the Fairbanks and the North Slope Borough communities.
This position includes periodic travel to the Utqiagvik Probation Office to provide direct supervision and to support community engagement and collaborative partnership efforts.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
This position is located in Fairbanks in the Fairbanks Youth Facility and will be required to travel periodically to the Utqiagvik Probation Office located at 1250 Agvik Street Utqiagvik AK, 99723. In addition to supervising the communities of Fairbanks and Utqiagvik, we supervise probationers in the villages surrounding these hub communities. This position could also be tasked with supervising other rural offices within the Northern Region and require travel to those offices.

Please Note that this position requires:
Traveling within the State, but specifically to the Utqiagvik Probation Office.
Use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN), which includes passing a background investigation, including fingerprinting.
Serving on regional and State task forces and other committees.
Participating in community networking, including coordinating service delivery, and working with community agencies.
Providing technical information to community agencies regarding the juvenile justice system and responding to inquiries about how the juvenile justice system works.
20-hours of annual Control Tactics training.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Training in counseling, education, corrections, criminal justice, the behavioral sciences, public administration, or a closely related field and/or progressively responsible experience developing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, or managing a juvenile detention unit, treatment unit, or professional juvenile probation officers; an institutional or transport unit for an adult correctional facility; or probation work involving individuals incarcerated in a correctional institution or who are on parole or probation while in the community.
“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.
