Gym Attendant

The City of Valdez Parks & Recreation Division is hiring a gym attendant to provide recurring "open mat" time for interested participants during the summer season.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position to work 15 hours or less per week. This position may monitor/supervise all ages. This position may work various hours per week, to include, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Position is open until filled. As this position works with the youth of our community, successful applicant must pass a criminal background screening prior to start date.

Minimum qualifications:

Minimum 16 years old or older.

Experience in volunteerism or participation in recreational activities is desired.

Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification within 1st month of work.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

Provide customer service to program patrons.

Assists in general recreation programs at an assigned facility, center, or event.

May perform cleaning and general maintenance.

Maintains order and discipline by enforcing rules, regulations and safety precautions.

Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions and intervenes when necessary.

Acts as a team member maintaining a cooperative attitude with employees, supervisors and staff.

Perform specific duties as outlined per activity, program or event.

Assists with activity planning and event record keeping.

Maintains facility security.

Must render aid, call 911, stabilize injuries until assistance arrives

Enforces patron conduct protocols for immediate suspension or ejections for up to 24 hrs, as outlined in Rules of Conduct.

Other related duties as assigned.

Demonstrates excellent communication skills with staff and patrons, both written and verbal.

Ability to work effectively with various age groups.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks.

Follows instructions and policies, written and verbal.

Work environment is varied depending on facility, venue and program, indoor and outdoor year round.
