The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for multiple Food Service Journey positions at the Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) located in

Mackenzie Point, Alaska.

What you will be doing:

Under the supervision of the Food Service Lead and Food Service Supervisor, the primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Monitoring of inmate kitchen workers in all areas and job duties including the preparation, cooking, baking, serving, safely storing and cleaning in the kitchen, refrigerated storage and dining hall

Oversight of the production of meals for up to 1500 inmates 3 times daily, ensuring a variety of diets are accommodated, including but not limited to regular, vegetarian, low cholesterol or fat, diabetic, allergy, and other diets prescribed by DOC medical staff

Oversee the preparation and production of all bakery items and all breads and pastries (i.e. sandwich bread, hot dog & hamburger buns, French bread, wheat & rye bread as well as cakes, pies, cookies and breakfast pastries) with in-house ingredients

Coordinate catering and food services for special functions such as inmate club banquets, educational ceremonies as well as administrative luncheons

Ensuring the kitchen is kept clean and organized, all appliances, utensils, trays and other equipment are accounted for, washed, properly dried and stored in the designated areas

The working environment you can expect:

Goose Creek Correctional Center is a minimum/medium custody facility that houses up to 1500 inmates and employs over 350 staff. You will be working in an institutional setting with inmates daily.

Minimum Qualifications

This job class is part of a series of competency based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor, Trades, and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area, the core and specific competencies of the career area, required work behaviors, certifications, and physical requirements.

PREA NOTIFICATION

The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:

Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institutions.

Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or

Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.

RECRUITMENT DIFFICULTIES

Starting salary may be approved up to Step D - $26.83, if criteria are met.
