This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Example of Duties
Anchorage Police Officers/Senior Police Officers perform a wide range of police services and a variety of tasks including: maintain order, enforce codes and ordinances, identification and apprehension of violators within the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA). Respond to complaints and requests for police assistance and intervene in various situations as required. Promote safety and wellbeing through the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the MOA. Conduct preliminary investigations; collect and preserve evidence. Ability to coordinate with other agencies, maintain records and daily reports; prepare cases for court testimony and testify in court as required.
Additional Information:
Field Training Officers (FTO) are a select group of experienced Police Officers trained to conduct field training of recruit officers after their completion of the Police Training Academy, with the goal of producing a highly trained and positively motivated Police Officer.
Provides qualified Field Training Officers and supervisors with additional training and opportunities to develop leadership skills. Provides consistent, standardized training to all recruit officers and provides remedial training in those areas where deficiencies are identified. Develops FTO instructor skills. Rates recruits using a standardized, uniform approach for documentation. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Must be a current sworn employee working within the Anchorage Police Department with three

years of experience.
Must have the ability to perform all functions of a Police Officer.
Additional Important Information
The APD Selection Process will be as follows for this unit. The Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:
Oral Board (minimum 60% required to pass)
Discipline Review
Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)
The eligibility list for the FTO additional duty assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the Basic Selection Process when the Certified Eligibility List is published.
Applicants must have completed any probationary period for their current position to be selected. An applicant that meets the minimum qualifications but is currently ineligible due to probation or prior assignment is still encouraged to apply to be put on the eligible list for future consideration with a date of eligibility.
Employees not maintaining Unit standards are subject to reassignment at the discretion of the Chief of Police in accordance with APDEA CBA Article VI, Section 13.
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
