POSITION SUMMARY
Performs professional nursing duties in the care of adult
and pediatric patients in emergency room setting. Floats to medical/surgical,
pediatric, and obstetric settings as directed by their supervisor for staffing
needs. Works with nursing leadership during medical evacuation situations.
Reports directly to the Clinical Nurse
Coordinator ED.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.
Initiates and utilizes the nursing process
to meet the holistic needs of the patient and family while adhering to the
professional standards set forth by American Nurses’ Association.
2.
Observes the patient's clinical condition:
recognizes, identifies, and interprets serious and/or emergent situations while
initiating appropriate nursing interventions.
3.
Develops and implements patient/family
teaching programs based on mutually identified health care goals.
4.
Documents all observations, nursing
interventions, therapeutic measures administered, and status of coordinated
activities between nursing and other professional disciplines.
5.
Evaluates the patient’s plan of care and
revises plan as needed.
6.
Safeguards the patient’s right to privacy
by judiciously protecting information of a confidential manner.
7.
Understands the developmental needs of all
patients throughout the continuum of life; is able to adjust care to these
needs; and documentation reflects this understanding.
8.
Assumes responsibility and accountability
for individual nursing judgments and actions.
9.
Provides guidance and leadership to other
personnel in the form of in-services and orientation/preceptorship and participates
in committee activities.
10.
Assumes charge nurse duties as assigned,
including staffing, supervision and decision-making responsibilities.
11.
When qualified, volunteers to participate
in emergency medevac procedures as needed.
12.
Participates in departmental and organizational
performance improvement activities.
13.
Utilizes incident and medication error reporting
protocols per MHC policies.
14.
Participates in continuing education
activities.
15.
Facilitates patient care across multiple disciplines,
departments and other non-MHC agencies through referrals and other business
operations.
16.
Stays alert to patient and staff safety
needs at all times, and completes reports as needed in SQSS.
17.
Documents appropriate fields in Cerner and
telemetry strips.
18.
Embraces MHC’s customer services
model.
Job Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Associates degree in Nursing from an Accredited College. Must have RN license in good standing and be eligible to apply for an Alaska licensure as a Registered Nurse.
AHA BLS required. Must be willing to get AHA ACLS and AHA PALS training within
6 months of hire
.
OB RN must have NRP AAP/AHA and AWHONN fetal monitoring. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and spend long periods standing or walking. Must be able to maintain annual core competencies
