Pay will be determined based on

location

of selected individual.

Anchorage, Soldotna, Wasilla salary: $3,870.40

Fairbanks salary: $4,257.60

Juneau salary: $4,340.00

What you will be doing:

The Air Permits Program is hiring an Engineering Associate II as a Supervisor for air quality permitting actions. The incumbent will draw upon their skills in supervision,  math, science, and technical writing to supervise permit writers and conduct technical reviews of final work products. The incumbent will work with Department staff, attend meetings and meaningfully contribute to the protection of ambient air quality in the state of Alaska.

The working environment you can expect:

The incumbent will generally work in an office environment in either Fairbanks, Anchorage or Juneau with the possibility of hybrid or full time telework. Whether working in-office or remotely, our team works collaboratively to share knowledge and expertise, and ensure the success of our team. Air Permits Program staff typically work a traditional workweek schedule with little required travel.

We are looking for a candidate that has experience in the following areas:

Accountability:

Permitting:

Experience supervising air quality permitting actions. In addition, knowledge of appropriate state and federal laws and regulations used for assessing applications, and the ability to use technical knowledge to issue legally defensible permits and approvals for various operations.

Environmental Engineering:

Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.

Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving:

Uses a logical, systematic, and sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Interpersonal Skills:

Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect.  Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.

Special Notice:

Valid driver`s license is not required, but desired.

Minimum Qualifications

An ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering.

AND

Two years of engineering experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere.

Or:

A non-ABET-accredited bachelor's degree with a major in engineering.

AND

An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.

AND

Two years of engineering experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere.

Or:

An ABET-accredited master’s degree in engineering.

AND

One year of engineering experience as an Engineering Associate 1 (or the equivalent) with the State of Alaska or elsewhere.

Special Notes:

"ABET" means Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology per 12 AAC 36.990(7).

Some positions require the incumbent to have specific education and/or experience in a particular branch of engineering. This requirement will be addressed in the Position Description and job posting.
