What you will be doing:

In this role, you will be part of the Public Assistance Eligibility Team focused on helping Alaskan families statewide reach higher levels of independence and self-sufficiency. You’ll determine eligibility for a range of state and federal assistance programs, such as Medicaid, SNAP, Heating Assistance, Cash Assistance, and more. Your responsibilities will include interviewing applicants, reviewing their financial and personal information, and applying program rules to determine their eligibility, making accurate and timely decisions in line with policies and regulations. For applicants who are determined eligible, you will initiate authorization of benefits for services and other supports. You will be working across multiple computer interfaces in this position.

This position joins a statewide eligibility workflow team in local Public Assistance offices across the state. The work location is 855 W Commercial Drive, Wasilla, AK 99654.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of entry level experience as an Eligibility Technician 1 with the State of Alaska;

OR

One year performing similar work that developed knowledge and skills in applying program requirements and working with client customers in stressful situations.

Substitution:

Post-secondary education in such fields as sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, human services, vocational rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, behavioral sciences, business, public administration, or accounting may substitute for the required experience (undergraduate credits: 2.67 semester/4 quarter hours = 1 month).

Additional Required Information

At the time of the interview, please provide the following:

Three (3) professional references, whom we may contact by phone, are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.

A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to support that you meet the minimum qualifications competencies.

This position is currently under review as part of the Public Assistance Field Services Study; therefore, the title and/or pay range currently assigned may be subject to change upon implementation of this class study.

EDUCATION

To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application  If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed  Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies for a position and are required with each application  (Unofficial is okay; please ensure the institution/URL name is listed on the transcripts)  Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview; if not, transcripts will be required before employment.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN EDUCATION

If education is completed in a foreign college or university, it may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
