Job Information
Open to any current Municipal employee within Development Services Department who is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), Local 1547 Union.
This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Job Bid Process Instructions
In accordance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between the MOA and IBEW Local 1547,
ONLY
candidates who meet the minimum qualifications as identified will be forwarded electronically to the Chief Shop Steward (or designee).
In addition,

a sealed bid packet to the Chief Steward (or designee) may be considered. The sealed bid packet must include and be completed as follows:
A copy of the printed official electronic application along with any required attachments as identified in the minimum qualifications. Candidates may obtain a copy of their official electronic application from the MOA's Employment Office.
Sealed and labeled with the date and position applied for printed on the exterior.
Signed across the sealed flap and printed name on the exterior.
Delivered to the Chief Shop Steward or Assistant Shop Steward no later than 3:30 PM on the closing date shown on this announcement.

Job Bid Committee Process may include:
An interview with the Job Bid Committee.
A review of the employee's personnel file.
A review of the employee's attendance records.
The Job Bid Committee may ask candidates to bring to the interview or provide after the interview, documented proof of the candidate's licenses, certifications, degrees or other qualifications claimed.
If selected, the effective date of appointment to this position will be indicated in the Bid Award Announcement. The selected candidate must successfully complete any pre-hire requirements prior to being placed in the position.
Example of Duties
Supervises electrical, elevator, mechanical/plumbing, and structural inspectors who are responsible for performing inspections and enforcing codes. Establishes performance standards. Evaluates, mentors, and trains employees. Takes disciplinary action as needed and ensures municipal labor agreements are followed. Manages the inspections work unit to achieve goals and objectives and to improve operations. Conducts in-house training on building code issues and may provide training for tradesmen from the local building community. Responds to complaints about inspections. Drives to job sites to view difficult or unusual construction inspection issues. Assists the Municipal Building Official in working with the local building community to coordinate activities and resolve technical design issues and disputes. Responds to inquiries about local ordinances and building code requirements. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver’s license
and
maintain it for continued employment.
Qualified Elevator Inspector Certification (QEI) is required at date of hire
.
Substitution:
Elevator Inspector applicants who do not possess a current Qualified Elevator Inspector (QEI) certificate may substitute

years of documented journeyman elevator mechanic experience and obtain a QEI within
2
years or current Municipality of Anchorage Inspector with a state of Alaska Electrician Journeyman Certificate of Fitness and obtain a QEI within
3
years of date of hire or appointment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the candidate's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
