JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and performance of the organization’s finance and shared services functions, including Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology. As the organization’s lead financial officer, this role provides strategic financial leadership, oversees operational excellence, and partners with the Executive Team and Board to support organizational growth, sustainability, and mission impact. This position balances high-level strategy with hands-on leadership, ensuring strong financial stewardship, compliance, and continuous improvement across all functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Executive Leadership & Strategy

Serve as a key member of the Leadership Team, contributing to organization-wide strategy and decision-making and partnering directly with the Board and Executive Team

Provide financial insight and recommendations to support strategic planning and long-term sustainability

Partner with the CEO and executive leadership on organizational priorities, growth initiatives, and operational effectiveness

Present financial and operational updates to senior leadership and the Board of Directors

Financial Leadership & Stewardship

Provide oversight for all financial operations, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial controls

Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit requirements

Oversee development of organizational budgets and long-range financial plans

Ensure effective cash flow management, liquidity planning, and financial risk mitigation

Guide audit processes and maintain strong relationships with external auditors

Shared Services Leadership (HR, IT, Finance, Accounting)

Provide oversight of shared service functions, including:

Accounting (Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, etc.)

Finance/Financial Planning  and Analysis (FP&A) (FP&A Manager, Analysts )

Human Resources (HR Senior, HR Generalist, Payroll roles)

Information Technology

Ensure alignment, efficiency, and service excellence across all functions

Foster cross-functional collaboration and integrated service delivery

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning

Oversee enterprise-wide budgeting and forecasting processes

Ensure accurate and actionable financial analysis to support decision-making

Monitor financial performance and key metrics across programs and departments

Guide development of cost allocation methodologies, including indirect cost rates

Contracts, Negotiations & Risk Management

Lead or support negotiations related to contracts, funding agreements, and vendor partnerships

Provide financial oversight and input on major contracts and strategic initiatives

Oversee insurance coverage, risk management strategies, and organizational protections

Ensure compliance with grant, regulatory, and contractual requirements

Investments & Capital Planning

Oversee organizational investments and financial assets

Partner with leadership on capital planning, funding strategies, and long-term financial sustainability

Evaluate financial implications of new programs, partnerships, and initiatives

Operational Excellence & Special Projects

Lead strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects to improve organizational effectiveness

Identify opportunities to modernize systems, processes, and reporting capabilities

Drive continuous improvement across finance and shared services functions

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of finance and shared services professionals

Build a high-performing, collaborative, and accountable leadership culture

Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations across teams

Support succession planning and leadership development

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time, in-person preferred, position based in Anchorage, AK. Remote work possible with Executive approval. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or hours vary with location. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

TRAVEL:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS AND REQUIRED EDUCATION:

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must pass state and federal background checks, including fingerprints.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field

10+ years of progressive leadership experience in finance and/or operations

Demonstrated experience in financial strategy, planning, and organizational leadership

Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls

Experience leading multi-functional teams (finance, HR, IT, or shared services)

Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and influence strategic decisions

Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Responsible work ethic with reliable attendance.

Employees are expected to remain alert, attentive, and fully engaged in their responsibilities during all working hours.  Sleeping while on duty is strictly prohibited.

Proven ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving and decision-making and perform basic assignments with little or no direct supervision while also working effectively as a team member.

Demonstrated intermediate level of computer skills necessary to use and create documents and reports, spreadsheets, workshop materials and slide presentations, and to enter data into intricate database programs and proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook.

Must keep all matters concerning participants in strictest confidence as required by HIPAA privacy and the 42 CFR, Part II confidentiality regulations.

Must be able to provide own transportation to meet work schedule requirements.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

CPA, MBA, or other advanced degree or certification

Experience in nonprofit, government, or grant-funded organizations

Experience managing complex, multi-program or multi-entity organizations

Familiarity with rural, remote, or geographically dispersed operations
