Working alongside the Captain, you’ll help operate and maintain our vessels while engaging with guests, sharing your knowledge of the local environment, and ensuring safety at every step. This role is perfect for someone who loves the ocean, enjoys meeting people from around the world, and wants to grow toward a career as a Captain.

What You’ll Do

Assist with docking/undocking, line handling, and safe passenger boarding.

Act as a tour guide/naturalist, spotting wildlife and sharing cultural, historical, and marine insights.

Help guests feel welcome, informed, and safe throughout the trip.

Keep the vessel well-maintained: cleaning, restocking, garbage removal, and light maintenance.

Participate in all drills and safety procedures (fire, man overboard, abandon ship, etc.).

Monitor inventory and report supply needs to the Captain.

Work closely with dock staff to ensure smooth boarding and guest flow.

Represent Icy Strait Point with professionalism, friendliness, and pride.

Preform other duties as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Comfortable speaking to large groups and leading guest interactions.

Interest in marine life, Alaska wildlife, and/or Native Tlingit culture (training provided).

A team player who can follow direction and step up when needed.

Current

First Aid/CPR certification

(preferred).

Must pass a

background check

and

DOT drug test

.

Physical & Work Environment

Able to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and walk 5+ miles daily.

Comfortable working outdoors in variable Alaskan weather.

Must be able to speak clearly and confidently for extended periods.

Willing to live in a

remote, rural community

for the season.

Must be comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from Hoonah.
