Job Information
Open to any current sworn employee working within the Anchorage Police Department, presently at the rank of Police Sergeant.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) Union and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the APDEA.

Example of Duties
Anchorage Police Sergeants provide direction and coordinate the activities of officers on an assigned shift or within an assigned unit; including briefings, uniform and equipment inspections, assignment of duties, managing major crime scene and tactical situations, case report review, maintaining duty rosters, investigating complaints against subordinate officers, preparing performance evaluations and other duties as assigned
Additional Information:
The Crime Scene Team Sergeant
Supervises and directs the Crime Scene Team. Schedules call rotation and training for the Crime Scene Team. Monitors the scene processing and reports of the team for completeness and accuracy. Other related duties as assigned.
Must be available for 24 hour call out.
Requires a minimum two (2) year commitment, except for opportunities to promote.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
Must be a current sworn employee working within the Anchorage Police Department currently at the rank of Police Sergeant.
Must possess a minimum of four
(4)
years of experience with the Crime Scene Team.
Must be able to perform all functions of a Police Officer.
Additional Important Information
The APD Selection Process will be as follows for this unit. The Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:
Oral Board (minimum 60% required to pass)
Discipline Review
Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)
The eligibility list for the Crime Scene Team Sergeant assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published.
Sworn employees assigned to the Crime Scene Team, when subjected to Article VII, Section 14 of the APDEA CBA will be required to participate with Standby Requirements on a rotational basis by seniority.
Participation in other special units is prohibited for members of the Crime Scene Team; if the successful candidate is currently a member of a special unit or team, he/she will be required to resign from the unit/team in order to accept a position with the Crime Scene Team.
Applicants must have completed any probationary period for their current position to be selected. An applicant that may meet the minimum qualifications during the life of this certification list but is currently ineligible due to probation, prior assignment or length of service is still encouraged to apply to be put on the eligible list for future consideration with a date of eligibility.
Employees not maintaining Unit standards are subject to reassignment at the discretion of the Chief of Police in accordance with the APDEA CBA.
All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference
Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
