POSITION
SUMMARY
Provide care of children birth to 18 years of age who are placed in Putyuk Children’s Home. Work as a team
member
to
provide
care
and
activities
for
residents,
as
directed
by
an
individualized
treatment
plan.
This
position
reports
to
the Lead
Youth
Counselor.
PRINCIPAL
DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop a positive relationship and interact with residents in a helpful and therapeutic manner. Promote individual, physical, social, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional development.
Work as a team and consult with counselors routinely and as needed. Follow the direction of the counselor to develop a team aspect to meet the needs of children in care.
Supervise children at all times. Follow established schedule. Support children in scheduled activities. Prepare necessary and assure availability of materials for activities.
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, predictable and therapeutic environment for children. Assist in meal preparation following posted menu.
Assist Youth counselors in planning and presenting educational, recreational and daily living activities for children.
Display an ability to make appropriate decisions, deal effectively with frustration and conflict, and to act as a positive role model with children and staff.
Support children’s behavior through positive guidance; display an ability to set clear and consistent limits.
Assist in completion of documentation daily. Note behavior, mood, activities, and progress towards established goals. Assist counselors in awarding appropriate points.
Work assigned day, evening, overnight or weekend shift that may include holidays.
Participate in an on call rotation with other staff.
Performs other routine duties when necessary to maintain a safe and receptive environment.
Job Qualifications:
MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS
Counselor
Trainee
(Range
12)
Must
be
at
least
21
years
of
age.
Must
be
able
to
obtain
First
Aid/CPR
card within
6
months
of
hire. Alaska
Driver’s
license preferred, with a good enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles. Must be able to work
mornings,
evenings,
overnight, weekends,
and
occasionally
on
short
notice.
OCS
background
check
required.
Counselor
Technician
I
(Range
13)
Must
meet
all
requirements
of Counselor
Trainee.
Must
possess
a
current
Alaska
Driver’s
License
and
have
a good
enough driving history to be insured to drive Maniilaq vehicles. High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of
experience working
children
in
a
structured
work
related
setting.
Prior
computer
and
typing
experience
preferred.
Counselor
Technician
II
(Range
14)
Must
meet
requirements
of
Counselor
Trainee
and
Technician
I
and
a
minimum
of
5
years
of
working
with
children
in a structured work related setting.
Must obtain 12 hours of E-learning courses related to child and family
development.
