What You Will Be Doing:

This is a lead position that conducts audits of large corporate taxpayers with an emphasis on the oil and gas industry. While the audits require some examination of books and records, the audits typically involve tax research and analysis of multi-million-dollar issues dealing with formulary apportionment, accounting methods, corporate reorganizations, foreign operations, and corporate tax shelter strategies. This position also conducts training; tests and maintains the Tax Revenue Management System for corporate income; and responds to taxpayer inquiries.

Our Mission, Values and Culture:

We are a small group of tax professionals responsible for Alaska's corporate income tax program. The Corporate Income Tax Auditors are instrumental in ensuring the accuracy of tax paid and compliance with Alaska’s filing requirements. We also provide technical tax support to other groups and perform a variety of projects that include drafting regulations and researching issues for tax legislation.

Benefits of Joining Our Team:

The Corporate group offers flexible work schedules, including “alternative work week” schedules that allow employees to have every other Friday off and the potential for part time telework.

Additionally, there are many benefits of working for the State of Alaska, including 37.5-hour work weeks, great health insurance, retirement benefits, higher than average leave accrual (paid time off), regular (annual or biannual) step/pay increases, union negotiated cost of living increases, optional union representation, and a variety of discounts at participating businesses (gym memberships, Microsoft Office, Dell computers, GCI, AT&T, Verizon, etc.).

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

We are located on the 5th floor of the Atwood Building (550 West 7th Avenue) in downtown Anchorage. All desks are electric that can be raised to work standing up. Free parking is provided, and the office is within walking distance of downtown amenities.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

Auditing:

Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.

Accountability:

Holds self and others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Determines objectives, sets priorities, and delegates work. Accepts responsibility for own actions and decisions. Complies with established control systems and rules.

Analytical Thinking / Problem Solving:

Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Leadership:

Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.

Oral and Written Communication:

Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, considering the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
