WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

The Department of Public Safety is recruiting internally for a Corporal with the Advanced Training Unit in Anchorage. This position is responsible for providing basic and advanced police training to a variety of new and veteran police officers on a variety of topics in a highly structured, professional environment. The position requires frequent TDY assignments to the academy in Sitka.

The Advanced Training Unit (ATU) is looking for someone who can work closely with a team of highly motivated people. Working long hours and frequent travel is required. The successful applicant will be based in Anchorage with the ATU. However, they will be required to work frequent TDY assignments at the academy. These assignments will be up to 2 weeks in length. For the right individual, serving as an ATU Corporal has the potential to be the most impactful and memorable position you will have during your DPS career. THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

This position is located in Anchorage. The daily work environment involves engaging with the field, in both small teams and larger groups of task-driven individuals working cases with significant and/or wide-ranging impact.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Experience in teaching and adult learning theory.

Strong attention to detail, computer, writing, and critical thinking skills to evaluate and document recruit performance and activities

Law enforcement experience in both urban and rural locations.

Strong organizational and time management skills to accomplish the multitude of tasks that are happening simultaneously

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of law enforcement experience, of which at least one year was as a State Trooper with the State of Alaska, Department of Public Safety.

Substitution:

One year of experience as an Alaska Police Standards Council certified police officer in the State of Alaska may substitute for the State Trooper experience.

BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check.  Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.

CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

The successful candidate will be required to read, understand, and agree to via signature, an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
