Shift hours: 8 hours per day

Specific job responsibilities relevant for this position include:

Will provide speech-language therapy services to individuals or in a group setting under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist.

Class Summary:

The Health Aide supports the health, safety, and well-being of students by providing direct care and health services under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). This role ensures compliance with state regulations, district policies, and individualized student health care plans, maintaining safe and effective health services within the school environment.

Essential Duties

Provide basic first aid, CPR, and AED interventions as needed, following established protocols.

Administer medications and record administration in strict accordance with provider orders, State of Alaska guidelines, district policies, and RN supervision.

Deliver direct care to students with chronic health conditions according to individual health care plans established by the supervising RN.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential electronic and paper health records for all student interactions, screenings, and medication administration.

Collaborate with supervising RN, building administrators, staff, and families to support student health, safety, and academic success.

Perform state- and district-mandated screenings (e.g., vision, hearing) and document results accurately.

Report unusual health issues, suspected communicable diseases, injuries, or changes in chronic conditions promptly to the supervising RN and parents/guardians, if applicable.

Document and report accidents or injuries per district risk management policy.

Participate in Health Services meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.

Perform other health-related duties as assigned to support the health office.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills

Previous education, training, work or life experiences which provide reasonable evidence of successful performance of various tasks listed. Such experience may be evidenced by:

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions, read and interpret guidelines, and document student interactions accurately.

Knowledge of medical terminology and basic health care procedures.

At least one (1) year of health care or school health experience, EMT experience, or other emergency response background. LPN license preferred

Currently possesses, or has possessed, an Alaska certificate as a Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant (preferred).

Training & Experience (at entry)

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license preferred

First Aid, CPR, and AED certification

Licensing Requirements

Valid Alaska Driver's License and use of a personal vehicle; may require access to military installations.

Physical Requirements

Light work: Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be very little, a job is in this category when it requires a good deal of walking or standing, or when it involves sitting most of the time with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls. To be considered capable of performing a full or wide range of light work, you must have the ability to do substantially all of these activities. If someone can do light work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary work, unless there are additional limiting factors such as loss of fine dexterity or inability to sit for long periods of time.

High school diploma or GED

AND

Two years of college (at least 48-semester hour credits);

or

Associate's (or higher) degree;

or

Pass the Para Pro Assessment and the Paraprofessional Standards Checklist.
