Job Information

Open to any current Municipal employee working within the Human Resources Department.

This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation) and is subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.

DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

LOCATION: 632 W 6th Ave, 6th Floor - City Hall

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Example of Duties

Under the direction of the Records/Employment/Classification Manager, this position supervises, oversees, plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Classification section within the Human Resources Department. Performs a variety of responsibilities, including professional, technical and analytical classification activities related to the maintenance and administration of the Municipal classification system in support of organizational goals and objectives. Maintains and ensures consistent application of the Municipal classification standards for Class Specifications. Provides advice to management in reorganizations, job classification, position and organization structure and design that supports business needs while in compliance with applicable Municipal Code, Municipal Policy & Procedures, Employment Laws and Union Agreements. Conducts complex position allocation studies, class series studies, salary surveys and special studies. Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field and three years of professional human resources experience,

one of which must have been in the appropriate specialization.

Substitution:

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and any combination of post-secondary education or progressively responsible experience in human resources or a related field may substitute for the Bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis. Post graduate education in the field or a related field may substitute for the required non-specialized experience on a year-for-year basis.
