POSITION SUMMARY

Performs Biomedical engineering activities for the hospital.  Applies mechanical and electronics skills to assemble, analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions on various patient care equipment. Assist in training on the operation and care of medical equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs and completes monthly scheduled preventive maintenance and safety inspections in timely manner, on a monthly scheduled basis.

Determines priorities for utilization of resources; applies mechanical and electronics skills to analyze, maintain, and correct malfunctions in patient care equipment.

Inspects and evaluates new equipment before it is put into use.  Inspects and certifies the safe operation of patient and employee personal electrical equipment brought for use at the hospital.

Utilizes an equipment management database for maintenance and testing records in accordance with the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

May provide engineering services through out organization as directed.

As assigned, provides repair and preventive maintenance for bio-medical and dental equipment in the villages and in the Maniilaq Health Center.

May be called upon for time to be spent in villages, providing support of program objectives.

May be required to travel in small planes on a regular basis, and is routinely required to lift and/or carry equipment/tools in excess of 50 pounds.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma and an Associate Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, plus one year of experience (or equivalent).   Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of biomedical instruments and equipment; have ability to read and interpret technical data specifications and drawings; have ability to use test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
