The City of Valdez is seeking an Assistant Event and Operations Tech at the Valdez Civic Center. Under the supervision of Civic Center staff, this position is responsible for assisting with tasks associated with Civic Center functions and events.
This position aids civic center staff in set up and tear down in ballrooms and conference room, monitors events. and helps clean the facility. This position requires frequent walking, standing, lifting & bending for extended periods of time, the ability to climb frequently stairs and ladders, and the ability to lift 50 pounds to manipulate staging, dance floors and other heavy equipment.
Position is open until filled review of applications is continual until filled.
Minimum qualifications:
Must be 18+ years of age for Assistant Tech & Event Operations.
Must be 18+ years of age for event staff where alcohol is present.
Must have high school diploma or GED for event staff.
Customer service-related experience.
Work environment
:
Predominantly indoors.
Use of a variety of cleaning chemicals is required.
Occasionally, working at heights of 24’ on the catwalks.
Assistant Tech Related Tasks
Leads theatre clean weekly and per event as required.
Cleaning and maintaining the facility and its equipment to well-established high standards, using a variety of cleaning tools and chemicals.
Assists senior staff with event set-up and tear down of furniture, basic sound equipment and theatrical lighting systems as directed. Operate microphones, other audio and visual equipment, basic theatrical lighting systems. With basic ability to troubleshoot issues.
Assist with theatre productions and live shows on stage and in catwalks as needed as stagehand and assistant tech.
Assumes responsibility for the facility and its patrons safety during events with the direction of a supervisor and/or independently. Ensuring the safe use of the facility while enforcing Civic Center policies, proper conduct of staff and patrons, crowd control, evacuation and any other emergency situations.
Ability to handle minor events in absence of senior staff.
Run and monitor bounce house rentals.
Ability to assist with inventory of catering supplies.
Customer service and public interaction.
Fill in for movie staff when absent.
Must be able to operate all equipment.
Performs other complex duties as assigned.
Responsible for a set of keys, opening / closing operations and locking all exterior doors.
Movie Related Tasks
Performs ticket sales, concession sales, usher duties & restocking.
Able to perform refund, swap or exchange at the register.
Responsible for all money managed by movie operation, including all proceeds. Performing established check and balance accounting procedures, creating a nightly deposit and dropping it at city hall nightly.
All related preparation, set-up and clean up as required for movie operation.
Follow instructions of supervisors, work independently and work with other team members. Lead the team effectively in the absence of a supervisor.
Able to operate the basics of movie program in the absence of Movie Tech.
Skilled in cleaning restrooms, kitchens, vacuuming, sweeping & mopping.
Skilled knowledge of biohazard clean-up.
Wear uniform provided by supervisor.
Operates the Cinema pre-show and digital movie projection systems. General troubleshooting ability.
Ability to do basic show edits and key retrieval.
Perform other complex duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and other characteristics:

Working knowledge of all Civic Center policies and procedures.
Basic knowledge of catering systems, policies and procedures.
Basic knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment.
Working knowledge of all equipment used for movies: concessions equipment, cash register, janitorial equipment, POS ticketing system and projection as it relates to movie operations.
Working knowledge of all equipment used for events: tables, chairs, audio/visual equipment, portable staging, portable dance floors, and other equipment used for room set ups.
Skilled in practicing work safety.
Ability to follow directions and work independently.
Ability to visually and physically operate a variety of equipment.
Ability to verbally communicate and enforce Civic Center policies and procedures clearly and concisely.
Ability to assist clients and the public. Providing friendly, efficient customer service, and conflict resolution.
Ability to perform job duties in a mature and professional manner which reflects positively on the Civic Center and the City of Valdez
Ability to adapt and problem solve.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to contribute positively to a team effort.
Willing to work a non-traditional schedule.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office is preferred.
