Position Overview:
We seek a compassionate, self-motivated, and highly organized Arts Coordinator to support our growing arts organization. The Arts Coordinator will be a strong, creative leader who is passionate about the arts, committed to building strong relationships within the community, and skilled in program management. This role requires a positive, friendly, and inclusive approach to the arts, focusing on problem-solving and fostering collaborative community partnerships. The ideal candidate will have experience living and working in rural Alaska, and would show a deep understanding of the culture in the Yukon Kuskokwim region. They will be proactive, flexible, and possess excellent communication skills. They will hold a Bachelor degree in a related field, or commensurate years of experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Event Coordination & Cama’i Dance Festival
Development, planning, and implementation of local arts events/programs including: concerts, tundra tales, first friday, community art classes, Bethel bowls, auctions, kids summer arts camps and others.
Utilize community partnerships and Saturday Markets for outreach opportunities. Advertise SWAAG events, concerts, classes, and the consignment shop.
Work with the Executive Director to assist in coordinating the Cama’i Dance Festival and its volunteers.
Cultivate a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture across all offerings.
Community Engagement & Outreach
Monitor and update SWAAG website with pertinent links, community calendar, event information and online shop.
Connect upcoming, new or exciting information via local media outlets and social media accounts + email list serve.
Assist Executive Director in increasing exposure and digital highlights of artists working in rural Alaska.
Artist Support
Build a local and regional artist network with pertinent data collected
Connect artist/performers with local and state resources
Create and promote local “profiled artists” among media outlets and social media, and within each artist's home community.
Build and manage online SWAAG Gift Shop sales for limited items.
Professional Growth
Learn to advocate for the arts, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all offerings
Utilize a portion of your day making sure you are checking in with yourself and finding ways to make your upcoming weeks more enjoyable.
Attend professional development classes when offered.
