Job Description

The Department of Natural Resources, Office of the Commissioner

,

is recruiting for an Appeals Coordinator in Anchorage, Alaska.

This position has the responsibility for

:

Managing an appeal docket, monitoring the DNR appeals mailbox, transferring e-mails and documents to appropriate case files, and organizing and archiving appeal case files.

Reviewing incoming appeals and drafting acknowledgment letters to appellants, as well as deficiency letters when warranted.

Assessing incoming appeals for potential stays pending appeal.

Requesting and reviewing agency records for each filed appeal.

Handling telephone inquiries from appellants, potential appellants, attorneys, and other interested parties to an appeal.

Researching precedents, relevant case law, department policies, regulations, and statutes.

Participating in meetings with DNR leadership.

Proofreading and editing appeal decisions for the Commissioner’s review and signature.

Assembling the agency record for the Commissioner’s office for a matter on appeal.

Handling public record requests for the Commissioner’s office.

Handling such other duties as assigned by the Director of Appeals.

Co-managing the Department’s ethics program.

Minimum Qualifications

Desirable Experience

Training as a paralegal or experience working with a tribunal.

Ability to write clearly.

Good communication and analytical skills.

College education or paralegal certification is desirable.

Excellent Organizational Skills.

Solid background in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Experience in assembling records for appeal and public record requests.

Good proofreading skills.
