What you will be doing:

You will be developing and delivering curriculum for Pretrial, Probation, and Parole, Correctional and Municipal training basic academies as well as in-service departmental personnel. The incumbent will work with an emphasis on Pretrial, Probation and Parole (DP3) training disciplines and assist in providing ongoing educational opportunities for the Department of Corrections.

The Academy provides training for the Department's correctional professionals through a structured adult learning based model, centered on providing the State of Alaska with qualified and trained personnel. These trained professionals are prepared to address the numerous challenges facing the supervision of the offender population and their successful reintegration back into the community.

The Division of Pretrial Probation and Parole Training Academy is located in the Palmer State Office Building (PSOB) in Palmer, Alaska. It is a fast-paced work environment which relies heavily on small team dynamics to deliver training within classrooms and off-site venues around the state which travel may be required to help facilitate training and other forms of assistance in division district offices.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific comptentcies:

Program Oversight: Plans, coordinates, and monitors programs to ensure that federal, state, and/or local government program requirements and plans are met, providing professional consultation on the specialized services of the program or associated project(s).

Criminal Law: Knowledge of state and Federal criminal laws, including procedures, regulations, guidelines, and precedents related to admissibility of evidence and prosecution.

Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.

Legal, Government, and Jurisprudence: Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, legal practices and documents, Government regulations, Executive orders, agency rules, Government organization and functions, and the democratic political process.

Arrest: Knowledge of the laws, principles, and procedures used in apprehending a criminal suspect, including polices for pursuit and proper use of force and capture such as Miranda rights.
