Job Description

The Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office are recruiting for an Administrative Assistant 1

position located in Anchorage!

What you will be doing:

The Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office (AMCO) are seeking a highly motivated and adaptable employee to join our team.  Your primary responsibility will be delivering exceptional, personalized customer service to everyone who walks through our doors or reaches out by phone. Your duties will include guiding applicants through the alcohol permit intake process and efficiently creating marijuana handler permits with accuracy and care.

Our organization, mission and culture:

AMCO’s mission is to enforce alcohol and marijuana commerce laws and provide clear, consistent standards for licensure to protect the public from harm.

You will play a crucial role in supporting the AMCO team by ensuring permits are processed swiftly, accurately, and with consistent professionalism—directly contributing to safer, well-regulated communities across Alaska.

The benefits of joining our team:

You’ll collaborate with a team of deeply dedicated, hard-working professionals united by a shared mission: enforcing Alaska’s alcohol and marijuana regulations to safeguard the health and safety of communities across the state.

The working environment you can expect:

You will join a friendly, close-knit three-person administrative team based in Anchorage, located on the 16th floor of the State of Alaska’s Atwood Building—with a stunning view of the inlet to greet you each day. You’ll be just steps away from the park strip for refreshing summer walks and within easy reach of plenty of great lunch spots. And with ample covered parking in the Linny Pacillo garage, you can enjoy winter afternoons without ever having to brush snow off your car.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for a candidate that possess some or all of the following knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's).

Ability to effectively communicate through strong oral and written skills to individuals with diverse backgrounds.

Ability to actively listen to public and licensee requests and forward the inquiry to those in the office who can best assist the individual.

Ability to multi-task, establish priorities, organization, attention to detail, work independently, and work well under pressure with numerous interruptions.

Minimum Qualifications

Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.

(Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)

Special Note:

Examples of advanced clerical experience include:

-Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative paperwork according to regulations.

-Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines and procedures. Examples of such tasks include time sheets, appointment paperwork, or required drug testing notifications for employees in positions requiring possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
