Job Description
This position is open for State of Alaska, Department of Administration Employees Only.
What You Will Be Doing
This position is part of a six-member administrative team for the Financial Services Section of the Office of Public Advocacy. The position ensures that all financial transactions adhere to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Alaska statutes, regulations, and agency policy. Primary responsibilities include processing accounts payable and accounts receivable for client accounts of court-appointed Public Guardians. The successful applicant will have a solid understanding of an accounts payable and accounts receivable environment; understanding of rules, regulations, and statutes applicable to Alaska Public Guardians; proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Estate Management Systems (EMS) ; mastery of 10-key entry by touch; and excellent customer service skills.

The Financial Services Section of the Office of Public Advocacy is located in downtown Anchorage. Free parking is available. The office is next to the courthouse and near many restaurants and shops.
Who We Are Looking For
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and disbursing officer's accountability.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.
Substitutions:
Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

. Permanent employment status is defined as holding permanent status in ANY job class in the current period of employment with no break in service (separation from State of Alaska employment) since the permanent status was earned.
