The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Labor Standards and Safety, is recruiting for a

Wage-Hour Technician located in Anchorage!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 12.

What You Will Be Doing:

Wage and Hour Technicians ensure that the prevailing wage requirements are adhered to on public construction projects. They conduct audits of certified payrolls, perform on-site inspections of construction projects, review and approve Notices of Award and Notices of Completion, and provide technical assistance for users of the Department’s LSS Online Filing Services. Wage and Hour Technicians also provide assistance with the office’s child labor, general industry, and customer service offerings.

Wage and Hour Technicians carry out this mission by ensuring employees are paid the prevailing wage on public construction projects. Wage and Hour Technicians also work to educate employers on their responsibilities, conduct on-site inspections of public construction, and provide technical assistance to public users of the LSS Online Filing Services.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This job is located Anchorage, Alaska. There is routine travel throughout the Anchorage area and occasional travel throughout the state for on-site inspections.

We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:

Auditing

: Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.

Compliance

: Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.

Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving

: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or a GED certificate

AND

Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience is met by service as an Administrative Clerk 3, Human Resource Assistant, or Accounting Clerk 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

Substitution:

Six months of post secondary education from an accredited college (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of work experience) may substitute for the specific experience.

DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

A list of three (3) professional references, one of which should be your most recent supervisor, including name, job title, employer, and current phone number(s).

A copy of your last three (3) performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable.

A copy of your current valid Driver’s License.
