What You Will Be Doing

In collaboration with the Finance Director, the State Accountants will lead the Accounting Services Section, Statewide Single Audit Coordinator and the Aged Accounts Receivable & Debt Recovery Team (AARDR). Your role will develop policy and administrative rules, advise on tax compliance issues, implement new governmental accounting standards, and produce the statewide annual comprehensive financial report. You will coach and mentor accounting supervisors and staff accountants, set performance goals and evaluate team performance.

As the leader of those teams you will be handling the full range of accounting issues from Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncement implementations to Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports (ACFR).

Minimum Qualifications

An active Certified Public Accountant license

AND

At least three (3) years of professional experience in government accounting. Experience working in an enterprise-wide accounting system such as: CGI, SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.

Substitution:

The following may substitute in lieu of an active Certified Public Accountant licensure:

Certification as a Certified Government Finance Manager (CGFM) by the Association of Government Accountants;

Certification as a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) by the Government Finance Officers Association;

Or,

A Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and at least one (1) additional year of professional experience in government accounting which includes experience working in an enterprise-wide accounting system such as: CGI, SAP, Peoplesoft, Oracle, etc.

Special Note:

The position in this job class is in the partially exempt service in accordance with AS 39.25.130.

The partially exempt service is established by statute and is subject to the state's classification and pay plan. Positions are exempt from the usual recruitment process and serve at the discretion of the appointing authority. This position is not covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement.
