Job Information

Open to any current Municipal employee within the Anchorage Police Department.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Police Department Employees Association (APDEA) Union and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the APDEA.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Example of Duties

This is the leadership and managerial position which is responsible for Records work layout, planning, staff scheduling for all shifts, performance evaluation, and directing. The collection and documentation of fines are monitored, reviewed, and forwarded to Cash Management. The Police Clerk III creates, develops, maintains, implements, and monitors the training program for the unit. Performance evaluations are objectively written. It is necessary to identify problems and answer all unit employees' questions. Accuracy is a requirement of the unit and must be monitored through audit reports. Warrant lists are reviewed for accuracy and forwarded to Traffic Court for action. There is extensive communication with in-house department and outside agencies. Detailed knowledge of Anchorage Police Department policies and procedures. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent,

and

years of clerical and/or technical experience in a police department or equivalent elsewhere, which included maintaining records in an automated record system.

Typing test at a net speed of 35 words per minute

at time of hire

Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) / National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification

within thirty (30) days of hire.

Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check

at time of hire.

Additional Important Information

The APD Internal Selection Process will be utilized. The Basic Selection Process includes evaluating and confirming applicant information and developing a ranked list by the following factors:

Oral Board - minimum 60% passing score.

Command Review - minimum 60% passing score.

Discipline Review.

Secondary Discipline Review will occur at time of transfer. (The list will be re-ranked, if necessary, to account for both new discipline and expired discipline.)

The eligibility list for the Police Clerk III assignment is good for one (1) year from the date following the conclusion of the selection process, when the Certified Eligibility List is published.

All required licenses and certifications must remain current for the duration of employment.
