DEPARTMENT: Information Technology HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. LOCATION: City Hall, 632 W 6th Ave, 4th Floor, Anchorage, AK 99501 Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. Example of Duties The Network Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining complex network systems, including switches, routers, firewalls, voice platforms, emergency communications, and systems supporting security and access control. Provides technical leadership to network technicians and assigns and reviews their work. The position manages wired, wireless, and cellular networks; monitors performance; assists with capacity planning and optimization; and develops troubleshooting procedures. Additional responsibilities include administering network management tools, applying patches and hardware updates, and ensuring timely resolution of incidents and service requests. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences High school diploma, GED or equivalent and eight (8) years of experience in the field related to the position. OR Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or a related discipline and six (6) years of experience in the field related to the position. OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline and four (4) years of experience in the field related to the position. OR Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, a related discipline and two (2) years of experience in the field related to the position Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire. Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check within 30 days of hire Preferred Licenses: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) CompTIA Network+ CompTIA Security+ Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals. Preferred experience with Cisco Switches, Cisco Routers, Cisco 9800 Wireless Controllers, Network Analysis, TIA/EIA 568 Cable Standards, Wireshark, NMAP, Scripting, Cisco Catalyst Control Center, Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM,) Voice over IP (VoIP) standards, Microsoft Visio, Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI,) Network Management Software,Windows 11, Windows Server & Windows Linux. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service.
