This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify. What You Will Be Doing: The small, friendly Public Information Center (PIC) team provides guidance and support to customers as they navigate the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) programs. Daily tasks include: Providing excellent customer service while responding to general inquiries about DNR and its functions Receipting payments, processing fees, and balancing cash drawers (payments including but not limited to mining claims, land sales, permits, timber sales, material sales, State Parks decals) Utilizing and teaching DNR online research tools (including but not limited to Alaska Mapper, LAS casefile system, and Recorder's Office database) Mission and Values/Culture: The PIC serves as the first point of contact and ensures excellent customer service to support the DNR mission. A typical day includes heavy use of phones and computers at individual workstations and at the front counter, providing customer service and receipting payments. The three-person team at the Fairbanks PIC works closely with the Anchorage PIC and has daily contact with DNR staff from all the department’s divisions and offices, as well as other agencies and organizations. We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following position-specific competencies. Reading: Understands and interprets written material, including technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations. Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Minimum Qualifications Natural Resource Technician 1 – Starting Salary $22.08 A high school diploma or the equivalent. OR one year of experience performing a variety of office clerical assignments of average difficulty equivalent to an Administrative Clerk 2 with the State of Alaska. OR one year of experience performing unskilled or entry-level tasks in any phase of forestry or fish and wildlife work, routine field maintenance, or patrol duties assisting in the prevention of violations and the enforcement of laws and regulations concerning fish and wildlife protection. This work is equivalent to Forest Technician 1-2, Fish and Wildlife Technician 1-2, or Fish and Wildlife Aide with the State of Alaska. OR any combination of the above two substitutions totaling one year of experience. Special Note: "High school diploma or the equivalent" is defined as any of the following: Issuance of a high school diploma by a school district, including foreign high schools. Issuance of a high school diploma by a state based on successful completion of a GED test. Issuance of a high school diploma by the military based on satisfactory completion of a GED test. Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college. Completion of any basic education course of 480 classroom hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week). Six months of work experience performing duties closely related to the job class. Twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question; for example, a stock clerk who maintains records or a table attendant who composes checks for customers would meet the high school requirement for a clerical class. When an applicant has no experience related to the job, the following formula is used to determine high school equivalency: the highest grade of school completed plus the amount of work experience, which together total 12 years. This can be any kind of work experience. Natural Resource Technician 2 – Starting Salary $24.87 Six months of experience at the entry level performing technical functions of natural resource management equivalent to a Natural Resource Technician 1, Forest Technician 3 or Environmental Technician 1 with the State of Alaska. OR Six months of clerical work experience equivalent to an Administrative Clerk 3 or Recorder 1 with the State of Alaska. OR 16 semester hours or 24 quarter hours of college coursework from an accredited institution. OR any combination of the above where 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours is equivalent to one month of experience.
