The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving facilities, equipment, grounds and infrastructure across Borealis Basecamp. This role supports guest accommodations, staff housing, grounds/roads/pathways, and operational buildings to ensure a safe, functional, and high-quality environment.

Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, exercising good judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as a team in a dynamic and often extreme environment.

All team members at Borealis Basecamp are expected to maintain a team-first mindset, assist across departments when needed, and interact professionally with guests and staff.

Key Responsibilities

Receive, manage, and complete work orders using property maintenance software

Troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, heating, and carpentry issues

Perform maintenance across guest accommodations, staff housing, and operational buildings

Participate in rotating on-call shifts for weekend/after-hours emergency maintenance needs

Conduct snow maintenance including clearing decks, roofs, walkways, and assisting with vehicle or access issues

Fill propane canisters and monitor fuel systems

Measure and log fuel levels for diesel, gasoline, and propane systems

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Follow all safety procedures and guidelines established by the Facilities Manager

Support additional operational needs and perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

General maintenance experience in one or more trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or HVAC)

Ability to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and facility issues independently

Valid driver’s license and ability to operate maintenance vehicles and equipment

Willingness to work flexible schedules, including on-call shifts

Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with team members

Preferred Skills

Experience in carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work

Snow removal and winter property maintenance experience

Experience operating equipment such as skid steers and snowplows

Familiarity with maintenance tracking software systems

Experience working in remote or cold-weather environments

Ability to obtain for-hire commercial insurance (clean driving record and >26 yrs old)

Physical Demands

Ability to navigate uneven terrain, often in low-light conditions

Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, including Arctic cold

Ability to lift, carry, and position up to 50 lbs

Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including climbing, lifting, and prolonged standing

Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, and maintenance equipment

Compensation & Benefits

End-of-Season Bonus

A $1.50 per hour bonus is paid for every hour worked throughout the season to employees who complete the full season. Employees who leave prior to April 12 are not eligible for this bonus.

Employee Housing

On-site housing is available for $10.50 per day. Rooms are double or triple occupancy. Amenities include shared common areas with TV, Wi-Fi, dining space, and an exercise area.

Housing also includes private bathrooms, laundry facilities, staff-prepared lunch and dinner, and a self-serve continental breakfast (oatmeal, cereal, fruit, etc.).
