ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Workers Compensation, is recruiting for an

Investigator 3 located in Anchorage!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 18.

What You Will Be Doing:

Independently conduct complex civil, administrative, and criminal investigations involving workers’ compensation fraud, uninsured employers, and other violations of the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Act.

Gather, preserve, and analyze evidence; interview witnesses and involved parties; research records and databases; and prepare complete investigative reports and case files.

Develop cases for administrative enforcement or referral for prosecution, including preparing petitions, subpoenas, search-warrant materials, and other investigative documents as appropriate.

Represent the Special Investigations Unit in hearings, prehearing conferences, employer contacts, and multi-agency investigations, and provide testimony when required.

Conduct onsite employer visits and public education activities throughout Alaska to promote compliance and prevent uninsured workplace injuries.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is based in the Division of Workers’ Compensation office in midtown Anchorage and combines office-based research and case preparation with field work such as interviews, site visits, service of documents, and other investigative activity. The position requires local driving and occasional statewide travel, which may include remote locations, inclement weather, and travel by small aircraft or boat when necessary.

Law

: Knowledge of State and federal laws, including legal and court procedures, regulations, guidelines, precedents, admissibility of evidence, case preparation, and/or settlements for applicable areas of law practiced or supported.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible investigative work experience performing duties such as locating and gathering information, evidence and/or testimony to be used in civil or criminal proceedings, administrative actions, or governmentally regulated activities which included preparing reports in support of attorneys or agencies engaged in administrative adjudication, and/or detecting and verify suspected fraud, licensing violations, and other violations of state law.

Definitions:

“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.

“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through

formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

“Progressively responsible” means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.

Special Note:

Some positions in this class may require eligibility for commission as a Special Officer with the State of Alaska as a condition of hire.

Some positions require applicants pass a background investigation, which includes a criminal record check for conviction of felony or misdemeanor crimes, as a prerequisite to employment.

Some positions require incumbents possess an Alaska driver's license and operate a motor vehicle.
